CBBR possesses high-tech equipment for a range of physico-chemical testing of polymers and nanoparticles, including DSC-TGA, Particle Size Analyzer, Size Exclusion Chromatography & UV-Vis Spectrophotometer amongst others. Our researchers have access to FT-NMR (250 MHz), FT-IR, GC-MS, CHNS, fluorimeter at the University of Mauritius.

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) & Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA)

The DSC-TGA apparatus (Netzsch DSC 200 Maia) enables in-depth thermal analysis of polymers (melting point, crystallization kinetics etc). The TGA (TG 209 Tarsus) allows monitoring of polymer degradation and assessment of humidity or other contaminants.

Particle Size Analyzer (PSA)

The PSA (Brookhaven 90 Plus) provides fast, routine and sub-micron measurements. Particle size influences many properties of particulate materials and is a valuable indicator of quality and performance especially in the pharmaceutical sector or paint, pigment and food (colloidal) industries among others.

Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)

The SEC allows the separation of polymer chains relative to their hydrodynamic radii and is used to determine the molar mass and molar mass distribution of polymers.

Our SEC (PSS, Germany) is equipped with a Light Scattering Detector PSS SLD 7000, Refractive Index Detector GPC1260 and a column oven TCC 600.

This brand new SEC can operate up to 55°C.

UV-Vis Spectrophotometer

The UV-Vis Spectrophotometer (Biochrom Libra S 22) is routinely used to determine drug concentrations in nanoparticles and for the assessment of the purity of drugs and other chemicals.
